Coming from RVTools

If you used RVTools on vSphere, cv4pve-report does the same job for Proxmox VE: it reads the cluster through the API and writes one inventory, as an Excel workbook, a static HTML site or a JSON dataset. This page maps each RVTools tab to where the same data lives in the report, and lists what the report collects that RVTools has no tab for.

The RVTools tab list and descriptions come from the official RVTools documentation (version 4.8.2).

vSphere Proxmox VE In the report
vCenter Server No separate management server: every node serves the API and web UI for the whole cluster Point the report at any node
ESXi host Node Nodes sheet, one Node <name> sheet per node
Virtual machine VM (QEMU/KVM) or LXC container Separate VMs and Containers sheets, one VM <id> / CT <id> sheet per guest
VMware Tools QEMU guest agent (VMs only) Hostname, OS, IPs and partitions of a VM need the agent; container data is read from the host
Datastore Storage, defined cluster-wide, shared or local to a node Storages sheet; a shared storage is listed once
Standard vSwitch / port group Linux bridge (vmbrN) or Open vSwitch bridge per node; VLAN tag on the guest NIC or on a VLAN interface Network sheet, Nodes Networks and VM Networks tables
Distributed switch SDN zones and VNets Network and Cluster SDN sheets
Resource pool Pool: a group of VMs, containers and storages used for permissions, with no CPU or memory reservations or limits Cluster Pools sheet
License Per-node subscription Subscription columns on the Nodes sheet

Proxmox VE has no equivalent for some vSphere objects (HBAs as inventory objects, multipathing state, vSAN, DRS, EVC, SRM placeholders), so a few RVTools tabs have nothing to map to.

Sheet names are the Excel ones; the HTML and JSON outputs use the same sections.

vNetwork Per VM NIC: adapter type, network, switch, MAC, IPv4/IPv6 Network sheet, VM Networks table: NIC id, MAC, bridge, VLAN tag, trunks, model, firewall flag, IPv4/IPv6, gateway, MTU, rate limit. Covers VMs and containers
vCD Per VM CD-ROM device: device node, connected, device type Disks sheet, rows with Kind = Cdrom (and CloudInit for cloud-init drives), with the attached ISO
vUSB Per VM connected USB device: type, speed, auto connect Partial: raw usbN entries in the Config table of each VM <id> sheet, and the Mapping USB table on the Cluster sheet
vSnapshot Per snapshot: name, description, date, size, quiesced, state Snapshots sheet: VMs and containers, name, parent, date, “include RAM” flag, description. The size column is filled only when the report runs inside cv4pve-admin
vTools Per VM: Tools status, version, upgrade policy, heartbeat VMs sheet: Agent Enabled, Agent Running, Agent Version; the VM <id> sheet adds the Agent OS Info table
vSource The vCenter or ESXi server RVTools connected to: product, version, build — The report does not describe the endpoint it connected to. The PVE version of each node is on the Nodes sheet
vRP Per resource pool: VM counts, CPU and memory limits, reservations, shares, usage Cluster Pools sheet: pool members (VMs, containers, storages). Proxmox pools have no limits or reservations, so those columns have no equivalent
vCluster Per cluster: hosts, CPU and memory resources, HA, admission control, DRS, DPM Cluster sheet: name, nodes, quorum, member status, options, backup jobs, storages; Cluster HA sheet for HA resources, groups (up to Proxmox VE 8) and status. No DRS/DPM in Proxmox VE
vHost Per host: CPU, memory, NICs, VMs, ESXi version, boot time, DNS, NTP, time zone, hardware, BIOS, certificate Nodes sheet: CPU model, sockets, cores, MHz, memory, swap, root FS, kernel, boot mode, Secure Boot, PVE version, subscription, time zone, DNS. Each Node <name> sheet adds services, /etc/hosts, SSL certificates, tasks. No hardware vendor, serial or BIOS data
vHBA Per host bus adapter: device, type, status, PCI address, driver, WWN — Proxmox VE does not expose storage adapters. The Disks table on each Node <name> sheet lists the physical disks (vendor, model, serial, WWN)
vNic Per physical host NIC: driver, speed, duplex, MAC, vSwitch, PCI ID Partial: Network sheet, Nodes Networks table, rows of type eth with active flag and MTU; bond rows list their slave NICs. Driver, speed, duplex and PCI ID are not in the API
vSwitch Per standard vSwitch: ports, security policy, traffic shaping, teaming, MTU Network sheet, Nodes Networks table: bridge and bond rows with ports, VLAN awareness, STP, bond mode, hash policy, MTU. Also drawn in the network diagram
vPort Per port group: vSwitch, VLAN ID, security policy, shaping, teaming Network sheet: VLAN interfaces in Nodes Networks, and the bridge plus VLAN tag of each guest NIC in VM Networks
dvSwitch Per distributed switch: members, ports, MTU, LACP, CDP Network sheet, SDN Vnets table, and Cluster SDN sheet: zones (type, MTU, nodes, bridge), vnets, controllers
dvPort Per distributed port group: VLAN, uplinks, policies Cluster SDN sheet: vnets (zone, tag, alias, VLAN aware) and subnets (gateway, SNAT, DHCP DNS)
vSC+VMK Per host VMkernel adapter: port group, MAC, IP, subnet, gateway Network sheet, Nodes Networks table: address, CIDR, gateway (IPv4 and IPv6) of each node interface or bridge
vDatastore Per datastore: type, capacity, provisioned, used, free, connected hosts Storages sheet: type, content types, shared flag, size, used, usage %. Storages table on the Cluster sheet: configuration (nodes, path, server, export, pool, prune settings)
vMultiPath Per LUN and host: multipath policy, operational state, path states — Multipathing is configured in the OS of each node and is not exposed by the Proxmox VE API
vLicense Per license: product, key, total and used, expiration, features Nodes sheet: subscription level, product name, registration date. Subscription keys are not exported
vFileInfo Every file on every datastore (optional, enabled with a preference or CLI switch) Storage Content sheet (ISO, templates, disk images) and Backups sheet. These are the volumes Proxmox VE manages, not every file on the storage
vHealth Health check messages: 24 checks listed in the documentation, such as connected CD-ROM, active snapshot, outdated Tools, low disk or datastore space, zombie VMDK, NTP, SSH enabled, certificate expiry — No checks in the report. It gives a Health Score per node, guest and storage, and an Issues sheet for API calls that failed. For checks use cv4pve-diag (see below)

RVTools’ vHealth tab runs a fixed set of checks against the vCenter configuration. cv4pve-report does not run checks: it records what is there. For health checks on Proxmox VE, use cv4pve-diag, the dedicated diagnostic tool of the cv4pve suite. The two work side by side: cv4pve-report for the inventory, cv4pve-diag for the problems.
